May 31st, 2006

Today was very chilled, we slept an insane amount since not only we were tired but it is always very resting for us to sleep in a place where there is absolutely no noise whatsoever (we live right off Melrose Avenue where traffic is not light and where we also have a major high school). Then we chilled with my parents, went grocery shopping, and had lunch in one of our favorite places here, Duc de Gascogne.
Simple, nothing big... Tonight we go eat Viet, and for all our foody friends, we took some nice pictures of today:

May 30th, 2006:

We left Los Angeles in the night, a little out of it as we didn't sleep but 2 hours... if that.
So as it is customary, we have our sleep deprived shot of the trip (left).

There were lots of ways to entertain ourselves on our plane adventure this time!
While waiting at LAX at about 5am, our gate was directly next to the Starbucks where the employees were preparing the opening for the day, so light could be seen through the window, but the doors were closed as it was just not opened. It should be noted that Los Angeles international airport is closed at night (and I mean the whole airport, not just the shops).
So our big distraction was to observe the people trying to get the Starbucks employees to either open or tell them when they would open. Some people REEEAALLLY need their coffee when the sign "STARBUCKS" is flashing in front of them, they must have some form chemical in their coffee that makes people react to the sign like a Pavlovian response! I mean these people were so needy of this place to open that we moved seats to actually watch all the peopl who did that... I know, I know, we're awful, but what can you do in front of such misery? laugh, right?

But that's not it!
We had another way of distracting ourselves on this 9 hour long voyage to Canada (because it's a place in the middle of nowhere, it took us 9 hours! Plane routes... >-+ ).
Background: We got ourselves pairs of these foam shoes made by Croc, you know they are super light and have holes in them so your feet can breath, but they are extremely ugly and come in flashy colors, perfect for traveling because of the extreme light weight. Of course, we had to have them!
Now we got some odd looks in LA, but only a few that we barely noticed.

In Texas however (our stop was in Dallas)... AH HA! Now THAT is entertainment!
Some people looked simply horrified, others just stared and some whispered to their partners while pointing our way. We did have a couple "out loud" questions asking if they were actually comfortable... It made us really happy to be able to laugh at the people who were genuinely scared by our alien shoes though! Then we thought maybe if we put these on our laptops we'd be the next Beatles!

So after more than 9 hours of planes and airports, exhausted hysteria and having made new friends and new enemies because of our shoes, we arrive in Montreal where my parents receptioned us in a state of extreme groggyness!

Leaving Town!

That's it, we're off tonight!
YEAHHHHHHH!

We were frantic getting things ready to go knowing that we would be away for two months made it different than usual in the sense that we have to bring along music equipment in order to be able to compose on the road... well, at least in Canada, 'cause we're not bringing everything to Europe, that's for sure!

Anyway, we're already exhausted from running around, and we have a cab coming at 3:30am to pick us up for the airport... We promise another photo in the serie of "we can't stay awake anymore", when we get to our destination... Montreal!

See you on the other side!

Our next trip is our honeymoon!

Well, we go through Montreal first to go to the Mutek festival (electronic music), then go to Italy, France, and back to Montreal where there is Jazz Fest and a billion other festivals the crawl through the summer in this cool city!
So it's going to be:
Montreal-Venice-Florence-Cannes-Uzes (between Avignon and Nimes)-Paris. YEAHHH!!!!
Of course we'll be posting here as much as we can.
Cheers!

Colorado Update

It's always nice seeing new places!
Although Mike had been here already playing the Fox theater in Boulder with his old band, I never had been to Colorado.
We started this morning by getting coffee and tea at Cafe Solé here in Superior, then we met up with the rest of the family and finished feeding Martin who seemed to eat really well in our presence!

After having fed Martin we all went to the Red Rock Theater which is also sort of like a parc where people come to walk around a lot. It's a beautiful site, quite majestic!
Though we did feel immediately the sacred force of the place, we thought it must have been a indian sacred site. That was later comfirmed in the museum attached, which made us a little ashamed... But at least what's built on it is a theater where music is being played which is sacred in itself! Still, thinking that this site must have been a place of worship, and knowing now that it had been a sacred site since the paleoindians, it just brings up the whole indian issue which we know very little about and can't speak about, but feel something about...
Still the place was extremely beautiful and quite breath taking!!!!

After that we went to have lunch in a tapas place in Boulder which was really nice, in a nice patio. Then we walked around Boulder which reminds me a lot of Santa Cruz. It's really nice here, very cool vibe, very chilled!

We're waiting now for everyone to wake up from a nap, and we'll go eat at Gordon Biersh, where they have some nice microbrew, and tomorrow is another day!

Week-end trip to Boulder Colorado

Well actually we're staying in Superior which is about 10 minutes away from Boulder.
Mike's first cousin, Gisela, and her husband live here with their 10 months old baby, Martin.
They just moved into a new house, so we thought we'd pay them a visit along with Mike's parents and sister.
Superior is an interesting town so far... It's a really nice big mall, with an amazing view.
See...:

Voila...:

Beautiful view, huh!?

La vue est belle, hein!?

We got here in the evening so we're only giving the heads up to everyone, but we did have a really nice argentinian barbecue at their house:

Nous sommes arrives dans la soiree et nous voulions donc laisser savoir a tout le monde que nous etions bien arrives. Nous avons aussi mange un super barbecue Argentin chez eux:

Gisela and Ari:

So anyway, we'll write more tomorrow after we spend a whole day here, we'll probably spend most of it in Boulder and will report at the end of it all.
Sweet dreams everyone!

Some updates

Here are a few pictures of whatever we did last week... Since my parents were in town we had a couple dinners with Mike's parents and then we also went out like to Chinatown and Little Tokyo, as well as other places but the pics from these two events are much more interesting than the rest...
Although that can be debated.
Really I'm just putting up pictures for those who follow and are waiting for more!

Dinner at our place with Mike's parents and mine, as well as Julio our cousin on the Argentinian side:

This is where I shared with Mike's parents what Michael (my cousin) and Ali (his wife) had brought us for our wedding, a beautiful pair of glass candle pillars. I promised I would not wear them as antennas outside of that night... Snif!

In Little Tokyo there was a guy who sang tirelessly in a distorting PA, and at some point an older woman started dancing in front of him. She was soooo cool, very extravagant, of course we called her "the Geisha" in our western minds but it was all in good spirit and in admiration!

Oh and this sign was cool:
