Our wedding week in Mexico
Soooo.... Since we didn't have time to post anything during the whole trip to Mexico for our wedding, I am posting a big one in order to read it from top to bottom and not from bottom to top as blogs go with their chronological order. Here it goes:
Feb 28th, 2006
Our trip to Mexico was not the fastest ever for such a short distance.... We had to stop in Mexico city and since we hadn't slept the night before, we had another series of our "tired Homer Simpson" shots....

We also completely miscalculated the time change and instead of changing our watches to a difference of 2 hours, changed them to a difference of 1 hour.... The result: we missed our plane!
We were put on the next flight to Cancun and had to wait even longer. hahahaha
Isn't it just so funny how you really have to look hard in an airport to find the time anywhere?
The only place we ever find it for sure is on the TVs that announce the flights status, but come on, it's an airport, put a big clock every 5 steps!!!!!!!
Anyway, we arrived in Cancun where our driver Jose awaited us, he spoke french as well as english and took us on a quick tour of destroyed Cancun by night.... Depressing. He said that only about %30 of the hotels were up and running... We saw what resembled an after war zone!
It was hight times we got on the boat to Isla Mujeres, where things were better than in Cancun. Or so we were told!
The ferry ride was bumpy as a rain storm was coming in, but it was fun.
Checked in our hotel, which we were disappointed that for our wedding week we had been put up in a room that was exactly in front of the entry door, and knowing that people come to this area to get drunk and party, we weren't too thrilled to be put right where they were coming in from at all hours of the night.
But fear not, we found out that it was the last day of carnival, so we went "downtown".
Downtown in Isla Mujeres is pretty much one street that goes for about a mile, with little streets off of this main strip.
It's quite fast to get to know it, and is therefore very animated.
Mardi Gras was fun. We mustered the little energy we had and went out for dinner, and walked around to see a lot of people gathered on the main square around a stage where tons of dressed up dancers were shaking uncontrollably. We stayed for a little while, but were so tired we had to go crash!
The tourist rolling box in Isla Mujeres is a golf car:

March 1st, 2006
We woke up really early to a lot of noise from people walking in and out of the hotel, which made me really mad!
But we got out and had breakfast on the beach right outside of the hotel...
We walked around until it was time to go meet my family at the ferry dock and take them to their hotel.
(we were staying in a different hotel than everyone else).
The storm rolling in gave some really cool weird armaggedon looking beach pictures...

My parents, brother, sister, brother in law, his parents and the little nephew all arrived at the same time.
8 people and their luggage plus the coats they carried from having to go to the airport under the snow in Montreal.
We helped them get settled and had to especially help put out fires from the bad organization of our travel agents... Which by the way had completely screwed up way before we even got there! (travelfrom.com, Sharon and Mark, never use them, they pretend to be specialist of wedding travel to the Yucatan, but eventually asked us if they could send someone to our wedding to see how a wedding is done on Isla mujeres... hum hum!).

I hate when my brother does that, he's supposed to be a little baby, not a big man!

Oh, and here is an example of some of the hurricane damages (although very small compared to a lot of other things visible on the island):

By the time we had lunch with everybody on the beach, hugged enough and caught up with news, we had to go meet with our wedding coordinator, Tiffany from sunhorseweddings.com (who did a great job!) at the location of our wedding, Zama Beach club. My mother came with us as she know more about these things than we do!
Tiffany is a very nice, quick person, we definitely liked her! She got it all under control, and we got the last details together.
After that meeting we came back to Posada where all the guests were staying and had dinner with the 8 people from my family who were there already.
It was very nice of course, and we had fun being together!
SO here is where we're getting married:

March 2nd, 2006
More people arriving... This time it was Mike's family, and family friends arrived.... His parents, brother and sister, 2 uncles, 1 aunt, Leticia, the Kershnars, and the Cohens, including Jay Cohen, the best man.
Also my aunt Rachel and uncle Izi were getting in later that night...
About 15 people.
AAAAHHHHH
So of course, it was a little hectic!
But it was even more so than we thought because after a couple days, that storm finally arrived in full force this time and flooded a big part of the place. It drained fast after the rain stopped but it did rain all day and hard! So we navigated with water up to our knees!
ALthough it was fun at first, we got really tired with it all, especially that Mike hadn't slept much because of the noise in our room, and also as he was between the internet cafes and the place where we got stuck at on the beach... HE was trying to get a hold of our travel agent to get her to change us room since after all, why should we be stuck with the worse room in the hotel, come on, we're the couple here!!!!!!
So at some point after staying at the Sunset grill on the beach, thinking that the rain was going to calm down, we decided to go back to my parents' room under the rain, and we got soaked, but it was fun... I lost a shoe!
hahaha
THe bad thing about this storm is that my aunt Rachel and uncle Izi were delayed about 5 hours because they flew over Cancun for hours and finally had to land in Cozumel to refuel etc etc... But they made it...
We all had dinner at their hotel that night, with Mike's parents and all... And we all went to bed early!
March 3rd, 2006
Ahhh, the sun is here and it will be here the rest of the trip!
Wow, it's hot now.... Really hot!!!!
But I love that, I love heat! Mike, his dad, and my mother are melting though...
This day was the one where Mike got our room changed by dealing with the owner of our hotel instead of relying on our travel agent who was completely incompetent and unable to do anything about the fact that we were not spoiled like most people on their honeymoon/wedding should be! We even saw other bride and groom getting baskets in their room from their planners, but ours were bad and more than bad!
So anyway, after many talks, it seems that they discovered they had another room in the end even though the hotel was "full", but the best room in the front with the beach view instead of the rusty boat we had at first, was free. No more entrance door, we went to the opposite side! What a relief, finally maybe we can sleep!
3 days without sleeping is a little much, especially when you're supposed to be getting married at some point!
New room view:

Stephanie's (my sister) best friend Gaelle and her husband Erick with their child Luca arrived in the morning, and we had lunch with these guys and my parents with my sister and her family... That was cool since my sister hadn't seen her friend in 3 years and she's so cool!

Anyway, I hung out a lot with my mother, we took a walk on the beach at sunset while Mike hung out with Jay in his "roof room" where they had a great view of the sunset.

Raphael and I had dinner with my parents and my aunt and uncle along with my brother in law's parents. The french speakers. Mike had dinner with his family, all 17 of them...
But we met up afterward for drinks with my brother and Mike, and Jay, which was nice, early because we were all tired!
Our loads of sunset postcard pictures:

Raphael and I hanging out with our parents, Jean-Christophe's parents (my brother in law) and our aunt and uncle Rachel and Izi:

Mike's aunt and uncle from Buenos Aires:

March 4th, 2006
Jason and Danny arrived on the 4th.
But since I had to take care of a few things for the wedding, I left Mike in charge of getting them, so I saw Danny for a minute before having to leave. Luckily we met up later after Jason arrived.
We all had dinner together, "the youth".... hahahaha
Not much to report on that day since I did a lot of things with my mom, hanging out, and taking care of little details for the wedding, and for dinner we just spent time with the guys...
March 5th, 2006
Rehearsal day. 5pm at Zama....
I'm getting braids extensions for the fun of it and because I have no idea what to do with my hair for this wedding...
That's all that hair dresser's fault, the one who cut my hair like Ziggy Stardust back in Montreal, remember, that awful hair cut I got last winter summer? only Jay loved it... ARGGHHH

Surprised nephew:

While I was getting my braids, Jay and Mike were hanging out in "town" and on the roof of the hotel (Jay's room):

So after spending 4 hours getting my braids done, Rachel, Izi, my sister, my brother in law (Jean-Christophe), my nephew Matthieu, Jay, Jason, Raphael, and my parents all went to the rehearsal at Zama...
That was actually fun, Jason and Raphael were working things out together for the first time ever... we definitely had a lot of fun, and everybody was talking at the same time... Poor Tiffany!

DA DAY. Perfect day for a wedding:

It was actually very chilled... Nice slow morning chating with my mom.
We even had a nice lunch with my parents, Rachel and Izi, and Mike's parents at the market where the food was simply amazing!

My mom and I took a nap after that and I awoke needing to get ready.
Rachel did my make up and my mom did my bun with my hair. So I had my mommies helping me until the last minute.
The guys had gone to Zama around 4pm to set up video and music, Mike greeted the guests who arrived around 4:30pm, and my mom, Rachel and I were getting there around 5pm to put on my dress quickly last minute and walking out to the ceremony.
I came out and a photographer was there shooting away... My dad met me and walked me to the site...
We both walked to the altar when we heard Matthieu (the nephew) say "WOW" really loud, so everybody laughed and we thought that was the best way to start all this!!!!
The ceremony was beautiful, Jason did a great job being himself, my brother did the same, and we laughed a lot. It was very touching!
Ronnie Cohen came up to read the jewish contract in Hebrew, my dad and Mike's dad came up to bless the wine and Jason did his buddhist blessing.
Mike looked so handsome in this suit!
We were happy, everybody was happy, we broke the glasses (yeah, I know, but I HAD to beak it too!!!!).
Then the photographer made us do this and that to take pictures, which are all here:
photo album link
And we even have a little web site for information here
After all that, we had a bit of time to have a cocktail and then dinner, dance, it all went really fast. But we had a blast...
I don't think I sat down for more than 5 minutes because I was so happy to dance!!!!
Everybody seemed to have a lot of fun and it was the perfect setting, exactly what we wanted!

My dress had a turning radius that I loooooove:

It's better to stick stickers in a sticker book on a dance floor at a wedding:

March 7th, 2006
The day after... not so bad since we didn't have that much to drink Mike and I... 2 mojitos for me won't get me sick! hahaha
I just love dancing so there was no time to drink! Even to us!
Danny and the Kershnars' departure.
Mike pretty much chilled with his family and I with mine. Very quiet day.
We did go out at night with Jason, Adam, Raphael, Jay Mike and I, it was fun, we had diner with the other "youth" group, my sister and her family and friends then we sort of bar hopped except we are not the party hard kind, so we had a few beer and good conversation, that was really cool!

March 8th, 2006
My sister and her family are leaving... Sad, no more cute nephew...
It was fun to see them relaxed as they are usually stressed between work and doctorate and all that...
The Cohen parents are also leaving, so it's starting to thin out.
Jason is also returning to his baby Ronan back in Santa Cruz, California.
Not much to report besides more walking on the beach and more hanging out with the families.
Mike and his family went and rented 3 golf cars and drove around the whole island... No pictures from that because the camera needed recharging... sorry!
March 9th, 2006
Rachel, Izi, Adam and my parents and brother left in the morning, snif!
It was very sad, I'm always sad when I leave my family!
But Mike is always the best at taking care of that, so we went and had breakfast after dropping off everybody at the ferry. Jay joined us, then we went to pack and met up with Jay to take one last walk through downtown as we were leaving in the afternoon.
Which we did.
The plane ride was calm as there was nobody in it and we were able to have a whole row to ourselves.
Landing in LA, Jay, Mike and I took a cab straight out without really waiting for the rest of the family. We were too tired to mingle. So we went home, had a quick diner and slept really fast!
VOILA, this was our wedding week, we were extremely happy to see our families and close friends together in a vacation environment. We had a blast, we got love, and we got married.
Just to reassure the few who have been asking us if things have changed or affirming to us that things WILL change, everything is peachy, we are still the same and feel the same, it's only another step forward in our relationship and we are glad that everybody is sharing our joy about this great event!!!!

No pictures from that because the camera needed recharging... sorry!
